It is almost here. The day that I have been anticipating and dreading in equal amounts. I know I need to do this. I have known it for quite some time now. My life has become too comfortable and it is slowly killing my business and my relationships. Comfort has become an idol for me – I have stopped doing anything that makes me uncomfortable. Not on purpose, and not all of a sudden, but it has happened and I hate it. I’ve tried to “buck up” or “snap out of it” or “knock it off” but none of those have worked. It’s time for something drastic.

That brings us to the here and now. I have been planning this for about a month now and I’m ready to share it. I am going to be doing a 30-day challenge to get me out of my comfort zone. I am publicly committing to doing something outside of my comfort zone every day of may (except my birthday). I’ll blog about it here each day. Some of the challenges will be simple, some will be difficult, but they all will be uncomfortable to me.

Why A Challenge?

Honestly, I need the accountability. I have known that I have become a slave to comfort for over a year now and though I have tried, I haven’t really done anything about it. I need the public accountability that comes with something like this. I know that not that many people will see this – I don’t care. I’ll post here every day and I’ll share it on Twitter and Facebook. You have questions, encouragement, comments – leave them below and I’ll answer.

What Kinds of Tasks?

They are all over the board as far as what I’ll be doing. Some are physical tasks, some have to do with business, some are relational, some are spiritual, and some are just uncomfortable. A few are things that I have been putting off that I know that I need to do. Others are things that I dread or avoid. I have about 20 of the days planned out at this point. And I figure I will give Ann a few “wife’s choice” tasks along the way since she probably knows what makes me uncomfortable better than I do.

A couple of examples that you can look forward to:

  • A cold shower
  • 24 hours of fasting
  • Eating sushi

Again, these are not necessarily bad things. While you’ll probably agree that 24 hours of fasting is tough, you may love sushi. That wouldn’t be uncomfortable for you at all. For me? Totally uncomfortable. I don’t know what any of it is, and I’m a bit grossed out by the fact that it’s raw. I don’t think that I’ve ever even tried sushi – I just figured that I wouldn’t like it and I’ve stayed away. Or you might be crazy and enjoy cold showers. Personally, I hate cold water. I don’t go into a pool if it isn’t nice and warm no matter how hot it is outside. I love to take nice, long, hot showers. Ann laughs at me about it all the time. I may be dreading the cold shower more than any other task that I have to do over these 30 days. But I’m going to do it.

Thoughts, Comments, Suggestions?

I still have a few days left before it starts. If you have a suggestion on how to improve it or of a task you think I should add, I’d love to hear it. Add it in the comment section below.
